Day 10, not many builders here today but they are all doing the plastering work and a bit of digging on the ponds,

The walls are starting to look smooth and are nice and strong (I was wandering around on top),

The ponds are only just at the beginning, they will drain out into a small stream which runs along outside of the walls.

Well we are 2 days into the second week now, its gone very fast. Today was a bit of a late start for the team here as there were heavy rains last night which continued to around 9am,

The plastering is going really well,

The new walls show no sign of damage from the heavy rains! which is good, but I must discuss the 1 week guarentee with the builders…is it from the end of the building process….LOL….

Couple more photos of the progress,

Not a huge difference to report today, the plastering is continuing, and the weather has been dry during the day.

The contractor who is organising the builders bought a new mobile phone…so he must be happy making money from the project.

Anyway…..some photos of the progress, I’m getting quite excited about moving the tegus to here !!!.

Black & White Argentine Tegus on the move in Bali!: Day 7

Today the plastering of the walls started, its not a small task !

The “wenches” moved the sand from outside to inside.

There are no cement mixers being used here, everything is being done by hand, which is kind of nice as you dont get the thudding of machinery all day.

I am slightly concerned a coconut will fall on one of the builders, sometimes in the night I can hear coconuts falling with a big thud. But they dont seem to care !

A few photos of the progress and also a couple of the “wenches” moving the sand in, they seem to work really hard I just wonder if they pay the ladies…lol….

Work ethics are different here in bali, you will quite often see women doing the heavy lifting and moving of building materials, while the men either sleep…or maybe watch TV….

Black & White Argentine Tegus on the move in Bali!: Day 6

At the end of day 6 things are looking really good, most of the main enclosures are finished

The path at the front needs to be repaired, and still a couple of minor constuction jobs to do. The next job for them is to start to smooth the walls over.

Each wall is very big so allot of sand and cement will be used! Tonight a large lorry of sand was delivered, so I will snap some photos of its movement into the enclosure tomorrow.

Day 5 over and done with already,

The build so far is going really smooth, you can see from the pictures that they really are making progress.

The walls are looking good, and the suggested foundation do seem to be strong enough to support the length of wall.

The forman of the builders, hopes to be finished in another 2 weeks (depending on weather), so this is really cool. We will start to make plans to pick up the tegus from the other end of bali.

Having the brick laying around at the moment is very handy, I picked some papaya for our mealworms today and standing on the bricks saved me from climbing the trees !

Its really exciting to get the tegus moved down here, and hopefully the breeding will be good again this year, but hopefully better.

More updates very soon !!! The weather looks good for day 6.

We have been really lucky with the weather so far, its still officially wet season, but no big rains so far since work started !

Work is continuing at a fast rate, the quality of the work is very good so far.

Today is easter sunday, but the builders are still here working,

The most time consuming part of this job will to plaster the walls, here in Indonesia plaster doesn’t exist, they will use 3 applications of well sieved sand and cement to give a nice finish.

Later this week they will trim a few of the trees so we can create a natural basking spot for the tegus, they really like it hot during the day!

Black & White Argentine Tegus on the move in Bali!:Day 2

Well day 1 went very well, day 2 was even better. The assembled team of builders are doing a fantastic job. Even a last minute change of plan for the wall was just shrugged off with no major problems,

The men who are working here just get on with the building/digging, Then they have their “wenches” who do allot of the labourers jobs, like… when a truck of sand is deliverd the women use buckets on
their heads to bring the sand onto the bulding site, the same for bricks. I will try to snap a few photos of this.

Its all looking really good, We were originally going to knock the small building down, but after they removed the chickens…wood…dried bananas…(and lots more…), the main structure looks good (well by indonesian standards…lol), in europe you get used to 10 year guarntees with new buildings….but here we have been offered a whole week as a guarentee.

So far I have been really impressed with the builders. At the rate they are going it will be finished before there estimation of 1 month, the weather has been kind so far. No rain to stop play.
