Transhipments of Animals, through London Heathrow.
DEFRA(UK) have started to advise that their processing and charging for transhipment of animal products through LHR is changing from 1st April 2007.
Pre-notification of all products of animal origin to DEFRA is a legal requirement. If a consignment arrives at LHR by air and leaves by air within 12hours, no checks are required. This time limit is taken from wheels down to wheels up.
If a consignment arrives by air and stays at LHR for between 12hours and 48hours before it leaves by air, then a documentary check is required.
This will require the completion of a CVED (Part 1 of which must be faxed to DEFRA as pre-notification) and the documents presented to DEFRA together with the appropriate payment.
It is important that the second carrier informs you of the departure time of the onward booking so that you can determine the level of checks required. The freight may be detained if the correct level of checks has not been carried out. If a consignment arrives by air and stays in LHR for more than 48hours before it leaves by air, full checks are required.
The freight must be transferred to the BIP and a CVED completed. Documents must be presented, together with the appropriate payment. The completed CVED and original documents (except the Health Certificate if going to a Member State) will be returned following a satisfactory inspection.
This means that any product of animal origin that is transshipped via stations in the UK must not only advise the Port of Health of the Arrival but complete a CVED and pay the charges in accordance with the attached charges list.
Charges must be paid to the port of Health prior to release of consignments for transfer. With breakdown, transfer to other carriers and loading by the on-forwarding carrier there will be occasions where transshipments are on the ground at LHR for longer than 12 hours. For shipments containing these animal products please ensure that from 1st April 2007 you check the timings for the on-forwarding flight, and where necessary inform the shippers that extra charges will be levied. In the case of a delay to the on-forwarding flight, please be aware that this may impact on the 12 hour time limit.
All customers will need to set up an account with the Port of Health for these charges to be billed to you. Alternatively we are willing for the charges to be billed to Menzies Aviation, and we will then re-charge accordingly under the terms of your contract. Please be advised that Menzies Aviation will charge a flat rate of £15.50 per shipment to the Carrier for the completion of the CVED and the presentation of documents to the Port of Health
Trials and tribulations of the Worldwidefauna web site:
This will be an ever-ongoing topic on our blog. It will be great to hear from people on what they really think about our website, and what is useful and what is useless!!
On the website there is some great functionality, for example you can create your own pricelists in pdf format, post reviews about your shipments, check on our lastest offers, see specials, featured species, browse our photo galleries for each species, and topic wide photo galleries, review order statuses, download shipment documents, etc, etc. BUT despite al this we are SURE there are things on the site that aggravate you, or new features you would like to see??
Please let us know how you would like the interface, if enough people agree we WILL make the changes.
RSS feeds anyone? Automatic Notification of new quick offers, and countries coming online? Let us know.
Unless you live in Indonesia the worldwide web is an ever speedier thing these days (can you believe we still only get 256kbps max speed on a GOOD day!…), how do you find the speed of the site where you are? Do you use a non-windows standard browser?
Let us know, it will be interesting to hear both positive and negative feedback both so we can build a better system for you.
Black & White Argentine Tegus on the move in Bali!:
We have a group of around 60 fully adult animals, and around 250 sub-adults animals, currently they reside in west bali at a low elevation, we felt they would prefer a move to a higher elevation elevation and over to the more popular side of bali (the east!!), hey they are tourists here after all…
On our blog will be talking about creating their new pens and the moving and settling process, we are moving them a few months before we usually see mating activity so we are hoping that the move will jiggle them up to be super productive this season.
Today work began on digging the trenches for the foundations, I was very surprised the workers turned up on time and put a full days work in here, a wholly unheard of idea in Indonesia…still it is only day 1.
You can see the main areas here where the larger pens are under construction, we have many banana, papaya, coconut, lime, cassava plants/trees in the area, which will provide an excellent natural shade in areas, but also be very useful for eating and drinking….
Here there will be 3 main large pens, measuring 22.5m x 6m, the foundations need to go down at least 50cm, as the tegus are great diggers!
Vanuatu: Better known for its “4pm Kava time” than reptiles!!???
Vanuatu:
It’s been over 3 years since any reptiles have shipped from here…could this be the Kava influence???
Or…just bad luck maybe lol, I’ll leave you to make your own minds up on that.
There are some fantastically beautiful Candoia boas from here, much more beautiful coloration than the Solomon island forms.
The frogs and geckos from here are also outstanding. Brightly colored Vorax geckos, Pelagic Oceanic Geckos, and the indestrctable Australian Golden Bell Frog.
Things are looking positive in Vanuatu right now. We believe shipments will start rolling out once agian in just a couple of months. If your interested in receiving a unique Pacific Island shipment like this let us know soon. Its quite rare to get a shipment from here and the opportunity is just around the corner. Get thinking on what you would like to see, and let us know.
It would be interesting to hear from people who already keep pacific island animals…do they still have 4pm Kava time????
Burmese pythons (localities)
Its really rare these days to find real locality animals, the burmese python has been overlooked for many years now, I mean why is it called the burmese python??, Does anybody own one from that locality….??? Its range is huge !! From India it stretches all the way down past Bali.Vietnam exports some babies each year but these all go very quickly. Hopefully we will in the next few years see more locality specific Burms around, The dwarf burmese is a cool locality. But I’m under strict instructions not to let you know where they come from., I’m sure you all know it is within Indonesia!! (hey only a few thousand island to choose from… If you are interested in baby Burms from Vietnam (how weird does that sound…lol), please let us know so we can pre-book some for you.
Vietnam
Has some great non-cites animals, and our partner there is powered by a turbocharged V8 engine…her shipments are usually out within 2 weeks of ordering. Have a look here a few customers have already left some very positive comments Reviews here
